Michael McConnell was born just outside of Detroit, Michigan in 1977. He grew up watching the Muppets on TV, squirrels in the front yard, and with the idea that someday he'd be a Veterinarian when he grew up. Once discovering that he was allergic to anything with fur, rerouted his passion for animals into art making. He studied art at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from CCAD he packed up a U-haul and drove cross country to the Bay Area, where he currently lives in San Francisco. His work continues to explore his love of animals and how they can reflect our own human nature. Michael has shown nationally in San Francisco, Santa Monica, Nashville, Santa Fe, and New York City to name a few. He recently finished a residency at La Porte Peinte in Noyers, France.
