Mike Duckering was born in Nottingham, eldest son of an engineer, amateur artist and would be architect. Mike studied architecture at the University of Bath under the late Professor Ken Smithies, a renowned pioneer of modern architectural design theory. After many years working as an architect in Bristol, he went on to gain a BA Fine Art Degree at the University of Gloucestershire. Mike now lives and works in Cheltenham, where he has a studio at Lansdown art Studios. His work has been exhibited and sold at a number of galleries and exhibitions, including Hadfield Fine Art, Cheltenham; Little Buckland Gallery, Broadway; Montpellier Gardens Gallery, Cheltenham; Bristol Affordable Art Fair and the Royal West of England Academy. Much of Mike's inspiration comes from around the southwest of England and travels abroad. Based mostly on direct observation and memory, his images of landscape and architecture are often subverted, capturing atmosphere and ethos rather than reality. The muted works of abstract shapes and colour; movement, texture and fleeting glimpses, evoke the sense recalled.
