About The Artwork

Walking down the trail in point pinole regional park headed towards San Pablo bay used to be a comfortable walk under giant eucalyptus trees. At one point you would encounter a shady pond whose guardian grove kept it sheltered enough to have water, even in the drought ridden summers of California. It was a small, simple, and quiet place and I would often sit there with my dogs for a bit before we headed back out into the harsh sun. This painting depicts the last time I saw our pond, for some reason the park decided the old trees were a fire danger and cut down all of the old growth trees including the huge guardian grove trees a long the path, they may have been hundreds of years old I am not sure but the dogs (great Dane and Labrador) and I could all fit comfortably on some of the stumps left behind. It was a sad day when we walked past the pond for the last time with no break from the harsh light. Without shelter the pond dried out very quickly and disappeared along with some of my favorite trees and a certain feeling one only feels walking among very old trees, I tried to express this feeling of tranquility and peace one last time. It was our favorite hike....we still go walking there ....but a different way now. This is a very sad story for me but fortunately I think the painting captured the good feelings and memories of the past...it's a good reminder to enjoy the small spaces of nature we have left while they are still there. Thank you for looking and for reading, (TLDR) then this was just a nice painting of a hike in point pinole that used to have a small pond you could visit. It was pretty. I use professional grade golden heavy body acrylics on all of my paintings which are painted on a premium quality bespoke canvas, which helps with ease of framing. I ship all of my work in a custom made crate, that I build myself, of high quality wood in which the paintings are french fitted with packing material to ensure no damage. On the back of the paintings is affixed your certificate of authenticity, which contains the title of the work,a registration number that corresponds with my records, and a short description of the painting. It is easily removed so it can be placed on the backing of a professionally made frame. I hope you enjoy my work, Thank you, M.McDermott

Matthew McDermott, b. 1981 NY, is an artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mat struggles with mental illness and epilepsy on a day to day basis but has found his purpose in the creative arts in the form of painting, stained glass and custom woodworking. Prior to 2018 his work was available only through a commission basis and resides in private collections throughout the United States. In 2015 he was fortunate enough to gain a patron that funded the body of his work now available in his portfolio. "My artwork has become my only way to find myself again. Life is good when I'm painting and creating and I'm happy because I'm doing what I love. When things are bad I focus on the fact that my art is there waiting for me to get better and that it is something to hang on to when everything seems so horrible and normal life feels like a dream or a story that can't possibly be real."
