Zhouzhou Zhou, China’s renowned contemporary artist, was born in Hebei Province and graduated from the China Central Academy of Arts and Design. During his years of work in Beijing, Zhou focused on the academic study of contemporary Chinese ink and wash painting. He became one of the leading figures in this field because of his bold attempts to transform traditional painting techniques and his efforts to combine Chinese and Western art theories. His workshave been exhibited in the UK, China and Russia and they are sought after by collectors and galleries both at home and abroad. Zhou’s approach to painting is spontaneous, his confident brushstrokes creating a sense of flow and energy. Although abstract, his compositions elegantly form into imaginative landscapes that draw viewers in and immerse them in a serene atmosphere. Somewhat secretive in the nature on his approach to the subject matter, Zhou has said that painting serves as a form of escapism of from daily life.
