Kathryn Sillince is a prolific botanical and abstract painter based at the edge of the Peak District, in England. Through rich, saturated hues, she champions summer and escapism, exploring how we remember joy and our happiest moments. What would that look like? Through her idealistic lens, the pleasure and work proportions of life are reversed. Landscapes burst with freedom, merging nostalgia with fantasy. An unabashed celebration of life and nature in all its glory. Lazy languid afternoons and crickets at dusk. Her immersive compositions invite you to heal in the wonders of nature, and become uplifted and lost for a while amongst the flora, or in the rich colours of her abstracts. “Flowers are so incredible to paint, don't get me wrong, but I think there's something so special about leaves, because all plants start with leaves, so many beautiful varieties never get to flower, and those deserve to be celebrated too. In my botanical work, I love to showcase and exaggerate the beauty and complexity of botanical forms, through life-affirming zany colour combinations and my favourite signature techniques, merging impasto and fine detailing.” Kathryn studied Contemporary Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam, later launching an accessories label after London College of Fashion, for a frenetic 13 years. Missing her first love of painting, she set up her home studio in Sheffield painting abstracts like her degree. Inspired by her new allotment and perennial love for exotic plants, a figurative addition to her abstract work started in 2023 with contemporary botanical forms and utopian escapist scenes. Tropical pavilions are a constant source of inspiration, as are rich memories of her childhood in her grandmothers garden in Szarvas, Hungary and recent trips to Sicily, Malta, Provence and Barcelona. Vintage risoprints, travel, ethnic interiors, and flea market trawls all over the world feed into her deeply personal aesthetic. Disco and synth music in the studio helps ignite a joyous feedback loop in her work. Kathryns work is held by private collectors in 20 countries to date, and exhibits nationally. Kathryn works with a number of corporate clients: commissions include creating two abstracts for a new Harley Street Clinic reception, AlP Media, an NHS hospital in London among others. Her work is licensed and available on the Samsung Frame TV.
