About The Artwork

Frederick Douglass was an American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, becoming famous for his oratory and incisive antislavery writings. Artist Antti Eklund paints iconic oil-on-canvas paintings to illuminate injustice and to expose the abuse of power. His goal is to encourage and inspire people to take action for a positive change. “We all have a voice, my art is mine.” After an award-winning international career as a design entrepreneur Architect MSc and Professor of Graphic Design Eklund switched his creative passion entirely into art - his deepest lifelong passion. “I am crazy about creativity. I love challenges. I love overcoming my fears and learning from my mistakes. Creativity is an endless process. Painting is my passion and my endless source of happiness.” Said of Antti Eklund: "Francis Bacon coming on Andy Warhol with Keith Haring watching, a touch of Gerhard Richter and a splash of Martial Raysse, a squeeze of Yan Pei-Ming, a drop of Marlene Dumas. But, no - genuine Antti Eklund." Artist Antti Eklund was born in Finland but has lived and painted in Baltimore, USA, for the last 15 years. He also has a studio in an early 19th century barn in where he paints in Teersalo, Finland.
