“Freeway Living" by Jeffrey Fuchs is part of his Reality Series of paintings based on feelings and emotions born from the world we live in today. Fuchs’ work is inspired by the world around him, listening to music, reading poetry and great novels, and of course surfing the web. This particular painting is inspired by all the people who spend large portions of their lives living on the freeway as they travel to and from work and those folks who drive across the world moving our freight and delivering our consumer goods. The painting also pays homage to all the people who were displaced from their homes and land so the freeways could be built. If you are ever traveling through Utah on I-70, stop at the Fremont Indian State Park and Museum. It is an amazing museum with hundreds or thousands of cultural artifacts uncovered when the freeway was constructed across indigenous lands. Fuchs begins with spontaneous bold gestural marks to open up the canvas. Those initial marks are followed by layers of colorful painterly marks made with brushes, scrapers, and palette knives. His marks are intentional based on what he is feeling in that moment. This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting on 1.5" thick gallery wrapped canvas. The painting is varnished with a satin varnish to protect from light and dirt. The painting is signed by the artist on the back of the canvas with the artists name, title, and year it was painted. The edges of the canvas are painted light grey, and the painting is wired and ready to hang.

I am a modern abstract painter living in Portland, Oregon, USA. I am also a civil engineer, specializing in large drinking water supply projects in the Western United States. I use layers of color and bold marks to tell the stories of where I've been and what I've experienced. My work is recognized for its vibrancy and depth, with viewers making new discoveries each time they experience the paintings. My paintings reference my love for urban and natural landscapes, with bits of graffiti and urban night scenes working together with forests, deserts, and trees and an occasional engineering equation or structure.
