Nicole Schonitzer (b. 1994) is a visual artist from Chicago, Illinois. She holds a BA from Vassar College and an MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been shown in New York, NY, Chicago, IL, London, UK, Poughkeepsie, NY, and Providence, RI. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Nicole Schonitzer’s work actualizes a space where formal abstraction and bodily narrative collide. In her constructed world, there is power in softness, impulsivity is celebrated, and tenderness rules. Her paintings address ways to touch and be touched. They’re sprayed and poured and scraped- all acts of spreading, all premeditated yet necessarily inarticulate moves. The touching of and within the paintings is messy in its intentionality —its consequences unforeseeable, its motive always joy.
