ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is like a portrait of Frida Kahlo. I first saw her work at the Whitechapel gallery in the early 1980's, I was blown away by it, so powerful, clear and strong, and her life story was such an interesting one. So I was making a small series of collages on mounted board, beginning by using a limited palette and allowing the creative to lead me, making what I thought would be small abstract paintings. The series ended up being 'portraits' of five different women who have inspired me in my life.
