The origin of the name of the sailing ship is associated with the events that happened to Peter. First on the high seas. He set sail to test a sailing ship that was built in Arkhangelsk. Some time after going to sea, a storm began, and the sailboat, caught up by strong waves and wind, fought for life for two days. Finally, the storm began to subside, a fair wind blew. The helmsman, from the local residents of Arkhangelsk, said to Peter: "Pray, Father Tsar, Grace has come!" Grace is a tailwind towards the house. So it is called by people associated with the sea. Returning to St. Petersburg, in February 1715, the tsar laid down the battleship in honor of his salvation and named it "Grace". Sailboat achievements After a while, this sailing ship was destined to be called one of the most powerful and high-quality ship in Russia at that time. In the summer of 1800 he was lowered into the water and sent to sea. At the turn of the 18-19th centuries, the battleship "Grace" was the best in the Russian fleet. It had an optimal design, size, solid plating, reliable hull fastenings. Soon the ship became part of the Baltic Sea Fleet. Its captain was D.S. Trubetskoy, who at that time was the prince of the Russian Empire. Later, he was replaced by F. Kruzerstern. In 1801, the ship takes part in a cruise to the island of Bornholm, which is located in the Baltic. Then, after 2 years, he was transferred to serve in Kronstadt. In 1804-1807, the sailing ship took part in the war with the French, in 1805, it delivers the troops of the Russian Empire to Pomerania. From 1808 to 1809, he fights against British and Swedish ships in the waters of the Baltic. In 1812, the ship takes part in the Patriotic War. The ship was expelled from the empire's navy in 1814, but despite this, it went down in the history of Russian shipbuilding. "Grace" in the modern world In the modern world, "Grace" is a sailing ship that has been successfully reconstructed. It is located near the Trinity Bridge. At the moment, it houses restaurants that have a magnificent view of the Neva and the sights of St. Petersburg. The exterior concept repeats the past as much as possible. Inside, there is also the former luxury and splendor of the time of Peter the Great. It is wonderful to realize that today you can have a delicious lunch on a ship from the time of Peter the Great, and that there is still an opportunity to “plunge” into the past “head first”.
