About The Artwork

This work is loosely inspired by cracks in an icy lake. The work is highly textured with raised portions of the canvas which create channels that draw the viewer in to feel the painting itself. The work uses a combination of acrylic, joint compound, and metallic paint to create a multi-textured, layered piece. My work is subtractive in which I put a base layer of paint across the canvas and then remove paint to create the work. I hope the piece provokes both a combination of mild unease mixed with strength and optimism as it is both creative and destructive at the same time. This work is easily hung by mounting on a simple, provided dry-wall hang.

I am a self-taught abstract artist who discovered my passion for painting during the solitude of the pandemic. Driven by the lack of access to museum and gallery art, I decided to fill the gap with my own creativity. With just a handful of brushes, tools, and paint, I embarked on a journey of self-expression. I started with paper sketch books but soon found myself drawn to larger canvases, enjoying the way my art can transform and accentuate spaces. My approach to painting is intuitive and adaptive, often beginning with a concept that evolves as the piece develops. I'm not afraid to alter my course midway or even use perceived mistakes as opportunities to experiment. My work combines subtractive art style and intuitive abstract expressionist techniques, and I often create with a single song playing on repeat. This unique fusion allows the music to guide the emotions and ideas I channel onto the canvas. In terms of inspiration, I am deeply influenced by the likes of Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Yayoi Kusama, Zao Wou-Ki, Sam Gilliam, and Jean-Léon Gérôme. Their individual styles and perspectives resonate with me and find their way into my thought process and work. I am a testament to the fact that formal art school training isn't a prerequisite to make impactful art, evoke emotions, or redefine your world with a brush and a palette of colors.
