Twelve-wired bird-of-paradise (Seleucidis melanoleucus), New Guinea. Poetry is wonderful, of course. But this bird doesn't care. Alkyd oils on board, with acrylic underpainting and additional use of graphite pencil and marker pen. Board edges white. Varnished. Signed and dated bottom left. Size 50 x 50 cm (19.7 x 19.7 inches), edge depth 2.1 cm (0.8 inches). This painting forms part of a series of 3 which could be hung together, with "Paradisornis rudolphi" and "Cicinnurus regius".
