ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work addresses the issue of the rising prices of fuel. It shows how the impact of fuel can cause everyday life to be affected by the food we eat and the way in which we travel to work. I have attached two pound coins as I predict the future prices will hit £2 a litre. I have managed to create a series of work that depicts the daily challenges we all face. I am at a stage now where my work comes across as very uninhibited where I can express my feelings through raw drawing and painting. I am a working artist based in London. All works are signed by me on the reverse.

Growing up in the British Northern County of Lancashire, my creativity was recognized and encouraged from a very early age. Subsequently, I attended the Cumbria Institute of Art and Design. I continued developing a passion for fine art, and my initial training were in drawing, painting, and sketching. As an aspiring artist living in a deprived area of Lancashire, my passion for art was often shunned and not encouraged. Amidst criticism, I held onto my passion and continued to create art from a deep, personal place. For many years, my work went unrecognized, but my resilience and determination kept me moving forward. Despite the challenges, I remained committed to my artistic vision and journey. I spent a lot of time looking at the works of Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon as well as impressionist painters such as Monet and Pollock. Within this period, which mainly consisted of self-learning, I looked and studied intensely the form, both within the human figure and the form contained within inanimate objects. Being of Indian origin, artists such as Bhupen Khakkar, Gaitonde, and Raza have influenced my work to some degree. I have taken on the cultural and traditional practices from a variety of art forms and acquired them through my own stages of art development. Over the last two decades, I have worked on developing more of a signature style using very expressive strokes, and my inclination now is towards abstract form of line, colour, and shape. I am searching for intensity, colour, and energy within my work.
