The Hazmat suit is not only the armour of anonymous worker-samurai, it is also their shroud and coffin. They die in there - from pride, over zealous sense of duty, macho determination, inadequate training & supervision, insufficient back-up and, stingy allocation of funds to do the job at hand. They die from weary old hearts working on a heart-breaking task in a heart-broken district of Japan. The ghosts of Fukushima are released. They already haunt the land. read the background to this work at .html

i live and paint in Tasmania, the island down under the Land Downunder my current interest lies in expressive mark-making in portrait painting . i am finding a rich vein in the literature on material thinking - the agency of media and notion co-responsibility in creative practice deriving from the thinking of Heidegger recent work has been a series of self portraits exploring the emotions associated with aging and entering old age . here i have sought to express the grief over progressively failing physical and mental powers, grief over the loss of parents, and the grief over one's own mortality . currently i am working on the emotionally recollected family based on old family snaps and recollections from childhood presently half way through a Masters of Contemporary Arts degree
