This is one of my few oil paintings where I drew on the canvas before painting. It is also different because it has only 2 layers. It's a happy lighthearted painting that I hope will be a ray of sunshine for you.

Hello and welcome! My name is Gina Canales Salmeron. I have taken my grandfather's last name because of the great love, care and influence he and my grandmother bestowed upon me. All of my work is dedicated to them. I grew up in Montrose/Museum District of Houston, Tx. During the 70s it was an area filled with all types of artists, galleries, museums and live music. Block parties were a common occurrence. From a young ageI was exposed to a great deal of art and music. As a young adult I spent hours just situng in the Rothko chapel or exploring The Menil Collection. I have practiced some form of art my entire life. Painting and pottery. Music and jewelry making. Photography and collage. Currently I focus exclusively on painting. I am an abstract expressionist. I work with oils, acrylics and watercolor. Which medium I will work with on any given day is dependent on my mood and what process I wish to delve into. Each medium has its own special process and trajectory to completion. All of my my works come from my imagination and process although sometimes I am influenced by a natural scene or current events. I will be feeling a certain affinity for a color or colors and am inspired to put color on canvas. Often the original colors are obscured by the end. But not always and it is always an adventure. I am in love with so many artists so I will just name a few of my influences. Hilma af Klint, Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, Mark Rothko, Kandinsky, Miro, Chagall and Picasso. While I have been an artist my entire life, I've yet to show my work. Being self-taught, private and a little shy has hindered me. The isolation of the pandemic sparked new avenues of creativity in me but also inspired me to now share my art with the world. I hope you enjoy! All of my paintings are signed, named and dated on the back. I will happily sign the front if requested. All oil paintings are painted with Charvin and Grumbacher paint. All acrylics paintings are painted with Liquitex and Golden paint.
