I am interested in how the medium of paint can evoke imaginative responses and psychological states ; images grow out of the process and my interaction with the materials , I follow a journey with the painting to a point where colour and mark begin to trigger emotive associations , where the paint appears at once tactile and concrete yet simultaneously having the potential for illusion and the capacity to draw on the unconscious . Paintings evolve from an experimental engagement with process and materials ; combining both improvisational and premeditated approaches results in certain material and perceptual tensions , implying a sense of space as both a physical and psychological domain . All paintings , unless otherwise specified , are on professional quality 12 /15 oz canvas , hand prepared by the artist and double primed , hand stretched onto warp resistant deep edge sturdy stretchers with cross bars for reinforcement. Professional quality oil pigments and mediums are used throughout to ensure durability and permanence of colours and painting surface . The painting has final coat of protective varnish . This painting is offered in an obeche wood tray frame , in natural light wood colour or soft white .
