I hug the canvas before me, bow my head in reverence and kiss it. Then I start. This painting is laboriously and distinctively textured. Each bump and groove spoke to me. I followed. As I intensively scraped at these layers I emulated the power and indiscriminate weathering of Mother Nature’s elements. I used my fingers, sticks, palette knives and large brushes. It is full of healing and grounding energy. Every time I picked up my brush to continue painting it over the months, I got so lost (in a good way) on my journey across its canvas. I felt complete and alive in its GLORIOUS green tones while creating this piece, no other thoughts in my mind but the rhythm of my brush. A memory of the breathtaking Canadian wilderness that I grew up in while canoe tripping is embedded in the paint layers. The call of the loon on a misty morning, the moose staring us down through the marsh as we entered his domain.
