This painting was very spontaneous and uses a mix of ideas and techniques. Some very straight and geometric lines mix with streams of flowing paint and stencils of geckos are carefully outlined with a steady hand. The colors are bright like flowers in the sunlight.

Jouke Schwarz is a multi-talented artist, making paintings, animations and installations. Born 1984 in England to Scottish Dutch parents, Jouke was raised in Chile in Latin America. After finishing high school in Santiago he headed north to La Serena to study oil painting under the tuition of Paz Alvial. He then moved to the Netherlands where he studied Audiovisual Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, graduating in 2011. Still based in Amsterdam, he is a full-time musician and painter. Finding his inspiration in nature and landscape, he paints mainly abstracts that constantly question time, space, the meaning of contour, absences and traces.
