Coming out of a season of grief, I wanted to return to my big canvases and create some big joy. I flipped through the images I’ve collected over the past year, looking for something to inspire. And there it was–a high puffy cloud against a soft blue sky. The cloud was dressed in soft pinks, corals, and yellows, with glimmers of green, blue, and violet along the edges. The sky was a soothing baby blue. It was the inspiration I needed to bring this work of joy to life. One of my favorite ways to begin the day is with a gentle morning–waking without the alarm, making tea, taking Tobson out, writing Morning Pages, and picking up the paint brush are all great parts of a gentle start to the day. For me, this kind of morning routine helps me find my center. My hope for you in being with Gentle Morning is that you will find a peaceful, joyful start and end to your day, every day. This special painting is infused with good hope and sing-song wishes to bring uplift to your life. I painted it big so you could get lost–in the good way–in these big and small patterns of color. The gentle blue at the top for me evokes those scintillating aqua blues of Bali, the Seychelles, and Tahitian waters. When you look at this work of joy, I want you to exhale, let go of all that is worrying you, and step into the peace and restorative power offered. What do you need to create a gentle morning experience at the start of each day? “Gentle Morning" is an acrylic painting on gallery-wrapped canvas that measures 48" x 72" – it comes wired and ready to hang in your home or office–wherever you need a subtle statement.

Would you love some Joy? Well, you've come to the right place. My paintings have been anecdotally proven to bring Joy. Whether you choose paintings abundant with bright, vibrant colors or imbued with a calming, soft gathering of neutrals, your adding my art to your life will bring you Joy. Joy is essential to feeling balanced and restoring, especially in difficult times. I've spent the past four years learning more about the positive impact of joy and playing with how to bring that to my art. Joy brings hope and optimism, for me and for my collectors. I delve deeply into why Joy matters; how it is different from happiness; why we not only need it, but we all **deserve** it. My paintings bring positive energy wherever they are displayed. My paintings have exhibited in solo and group shows in Seattle, Virginia, Maryland, Nashville, North Carolina, and Washington DC, including at the Phillips Collection. My works are held in private collections in Seattle, New York, London, Washington DC, Virginia, California, and around the world. Born in London, England, my parents and I emigrated to the States when I was two. I hold an MFA in Visual Arts at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, an MA from The George Washington University, and a BA from Davidson College. I am married to a retired U.S. Marine, Tom, and we live in Seattle with our beloved Golden Chow, Mory, aka Studio Dog.
