Girl with a Pearl Earring (after Vermeer) Painting

As an experiment to see how realistic the medium could be, I created this fluid pour of the well-known masterpiece by Vermeer. Interestingly, many of the original titles for his pieces, including this one, are unknown, and given names have changed often over the centuries. This one has been called Jeunne Fille, Head of a Girl, and Woman with Turban among others. As you can see, the fixation has not always been on the earring. It has even been suggested that the earring is not actually pearl but rather polished tin, as evidenced by its mirror-like reflections, pear shape, and large size.
