This is one of a series I've painted in response to all the news about war, disease, starvation, inflation, loss of freedoms, and gun violence. I've used it to paint my way back into joy. All my paintings start with a red under coat and I build the image up with multiple layers of thin glazes which sometimes allow the colors underneath to show through. This adds subtle complexity to the overall colors. These paintings are over-the-top and command attention. They're fun to look at and fun to paint. I hope this painting can restore a sense of well-being to a collector

I was born and brought up in Boston, Massachusetts. I can't remember a time when I didn't have a pencil in my hand and a pad of paper to draw on. I've never imagined being anything but an artist, although there was a time after graduating college that i had to wait for my ideas to come of age. Although I'm a native of the East Coast, after working in Santa Barbara since 1976 and the California light, colors, and aesthetic has been the strongest influence on my work. I categorize my paintings as Contemporary California Realism.
