About the Artist

Katya Shiova

Ukraine

Hello, dear nature art lover.
My name is Katya Shiova, I'm Ukrainian watercolorist born in Kharkiv, member of the USA (ASBA) and Ukraine (SUBA) Associations of botanical artists. My source of inspiration is nature in all its manifestations, from the first spring butterfly to the ammonite sleeping in the stones for millions of years. Therefore, main ways of my work are paleo, botanical and entomology illustration.

I graduated natural science class with an in-depth focus on biology, chemistry, physics and Latin. Now I constantly update my knowledge and personally work with my mentor-biologist, who helps me systematize information and apply it in illustrations. Anatomical accuracy is very important to me.

In 2023, I started working with the National Museum of Natural History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine like an illustrator. In summer 2024, opened my first solo exhibition in the Museum - it contained more than 60 original watercolour artworks inspired by the Museum collection. After the exhibition closing two of my artwork became a part of Museum expanding it's collection.
In autumn 2025, started a joint project ENTOMOCOSMOS that brought together my watercolour insects and the Museum's entomological collection. I'm very proud to be a part of the National Natural History Museum.

Influenced by: nature itself, because it’s the best artist, Zdeněk Burian, Charles Robert Knight, Georgia Totto O'Keeffe
