Bio – Artist Marilyn Froggatt As a plein air painter, Marilyn Froggatt covers the landscape from the Coachella Valley to the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountains. She feels there is something unique in every scene she captures and often goes back to the same place again to paint. She uses bold brush strokes to depict a sense of time, space and light. Marilyn was born and raised in Southern California. At a young age she showed an interest in drawing and painting and was often taken by her parents to the Huntington Library, the LA Arboretum, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. While in her twenties her husband, a photojournalist, gave her an old SLR camera and taught her how to manually adjust for light and focus. That was the beginning of her career in landscape photography and eventually plein air and studio painting. Marilyn recently retired from a 27-year career as vice-president of a major marketing company in Irvine, CA. While working she had a chance to visit many of Europe and America’s well-loved art museums and National Landmarks. Marilyn feels her career is one of the highlights of her life and set her stage for the next chapter. She now lives full-time in Palm Desert. While still working, she and her husband purchased a motorhome which she discovered created a perfect opportunity to her to travel and paint. She’s painted many of the National Parks on the Oregon Coast, Northern Washington, Utah, Jackson, Wyoming and the Tetons, Arizona, and of course all over Southern and Northern California. They sold the RV last year and bought a second home in Big Bear where she now spends her summers when she is not out traveling to paint. You will recognize Marilyn’s work by its broad impressionistic brush strokes and vivid colors. She paints smaller paintings en plein air and her studio work can be as large as four by three feet. Marilyn has studied and taken workshops from Elaine Mathews, Terry Masters, Mark Kerckhoff, Greg LaRock, Brad Holt and John Budicin. She currently shows her work at the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs, the Artisan Gallery in Big Bear and the Borrego Art Institute. She has been juried into many Artist Council shows and was accepted this year into the Joshua Tree National Park Show. She’s a member of the California Art Club, Riverside Museum of Art, American Impressionist Society, and Laguna Beach Plein Air Painters Association.
