It's interesting when you explore different series of works and then go back to one you did previously. You take something out of every piece of art you do and bring it to the next piece and I really enjoyed working on this new piece inspired from another series I did...the approach was somewhat different and I added different techniques. I enjoy doing these because I get to explore intuitive mark making with graphite and charcoal to come up with a solid composition. When I am satisfied I begin to add black and white and cream to the composition with torn painted textile. It speaks to you as it begins to come together and its clear where the color needs to fit into the composition to make it even stronger and then it starts to work systematically around the canvas until I'm satisfied. This is created on 1.5" gallery wrap canvas using textile and acrylic paint. It is sealed with a matte varnish which unifies the surface (it looks like a painting from a distance and then as you get close there is so much interest in the textile). The edges are painted and it is ready to hang.
