ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Grafted Corruption is a cactus 'Selfie'. The subject attracts attention with adornments, accessories and colorful makeup. It is not the original cactus but an impersonator hoping to gain fame and notoriety. The Selfie is a staged image of ourselves based on who we want to be, rather than who we really are. And, it is The Selfie image that is posted and shared to a worldwide community. I thought this image had to be bold and bright in color and brash with the line as if to say ‘look at me!” Framed in black timber and ready to hang. Cristina

Cristina graduated from Melbourne University with Majors in painting and printmaking. Her career has seen her employed as a secondary art teacher, graphic designer, video producer, and marketing manager. As a kid growing up in Geelong, Cristina was seen holding one of three things; a pencil, a brush or a hockey stick. Art was her favorite subject at High School and at an early age, she decided art teaching was to be her career. Cristina is currently working on a series of acrylic paintings on canvas, mixed media and printmaking projects which reflect her new surroundings. After living in Melbourne for two-thirds of her life she designed and built her dream home high on a hill overlooking the country town of Daylesford . . . complete with art studio and an active artistic community. Cristina’s style relies on speedy and abbreviated line drawing to give familiarity to forms which are essentially abstract in composition. Her brushwork is broad, fluid and lyrical and instills energy while her use of color can be described as both sensitive and brave. Her joy in the juxtaposition of brilliant color contrasted with matt, flat and lean paint is characteristic of her contemporary style. Cristina’s work has been exhibited in Melbourne CBD, Daylesford, Richmond, and South Yarra gallery spaces.
