original large watercolour painting inspired by Venice, Italy (this is 100% Original and NOT a print copy) The Grand Canal (Italian: Canal Grande, Venetian: Canal Grando) is a channel in Venice, Italy. It forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city. One end of the canal leads into the lagoon near the Santa Lucia railway station and the other end leads into the basin at San Marco; in between, it makes a large reverse-S shape through the central districts (sestieri) of Venice. The churches along the canal include the basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. Santa María della Salute is one of the most important religious buildings in Venice. Its striking dome is depicted in most of the city’s postcards. Salute, as it is commonly known, was founded in 1631. The basilica was built to commemorate the end of a terrible outbreak of the plague that began in 1630, and killed a large portion of the Veneto population. It was dedicated to Our Lady of Health (Salute in Italian). The architect, Baldassare Longhena, was commissioned to design the church and had also been responsible for the construction of the Ca’ Rezzonico. Santa Maria della Salute took 56 years to build and was completed in 1687. My name is Monika Jones and I'm an artist based in Dorset United Kingdom Originally from Poland as a little girl I grew up living in Neo-Renaissance villa designed and build by Józef Boretti in 1862. Since early years I was surrounded by beautiful architecture, antique furniture, interiors and art. This is when my love for art and architecture was born. Later on in life, I decided to pursue this passion further and become an architect. Trained in Architectural college in Warsaw I then studied architecture in Warsaw University of Technology. I had developed a deep well of technical skills, yet I spent my days painting the visions of others – not my own. A while ago a friend of mine asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I said I wanted to paint, to be an artist. But then I detailed all the reasons that seemed to make my dream impossible. She listened to all my excuses and said: You don’t chose the life of an artist – it chooses you so If you want to paint – do it! Several years ago I relocated to South West Englad and love my life here by the sea. this is when my artistic journey really began The large majority of my art consists of architectural detail drawings and watercolour painting. However I also paint using acrylic medium on canvas. It has been my ambition as an artist to show this world with a more colourful perspective. Our beautiful world has always been my inspiration, the world created by nature as well as the one designed and created by us humans however my passion for architecture become the sole drive of everything that I create. I am fascinated by the power of art and how everyday things can gain beauty simply because we’ve experienced them through someone else’s eyes. That is the magic behind the paint brush. I’m so grateful to you all for spending some time with me and my work. Thank you so much!
