When I moved to Los Angeles in 2000, I was very taken by the little hills in many parts of the city and the pockets of green. This painting was inspired by the the hills of LA. It roughly follows in the tradition of Persian painting with the painting being divided into three planes -- also being non-dimensional. It could also be that I was painting so much green and open space as a reaction to the intense urban world I was living in. I think the emotions that drive the pictures creation flow powerfully through into the vivid colors.

I was born in Tehran in 1961 and discovered my passion for painting very early -- I was 8 years old. I started working as a painter from age 16. Conditions were very favorable for making art at that time and I was utterly immersed in art and poetry -- in fact my colleagues and professors at the university used to call me "the poet painter". The work of Paul Klee inspired me and I loved the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca. Painting was always the central part of my life and has remained so. I moved to Los Angeles in the year 2000.
