"Green Pears on White Plate" Painting

I paint women who are present and unreachable at the same time.

Their faces are calm, their gestures unhurried, and very little happens around them. What holds the picture together is not what they are doing but a quiet certainty underneath it — a sense of belonging entirely to themselves.

These are not paintings about women trying to be desirable. The attraction I am after is a different kind: the natural magnetism that emerges when a woman is fully aligned with her own nature. My subjects do not seek attention, approval or agreement. They simply exist within themselves, and it is this ease that creates their power.

Flowers appear throughout my work, not as decorative elements but as symbols of natural expression. A flower does not ask permission to bloom, explain its beauty, or justify its existence.

I am drawn to the space between presence and mystery. A partially hidden face, a gesture, a shadow, or a simple arrangement of colour becomes enough to suggest an entire inner world. Faces half-hidden. Stories left open. I would rather a viewer finish the story in their own way than be told what it means.

Portraiture is at the centre of my practice now, though my path also includes still life, floral composition and landscape. Across subjects and periods a common thread remains: presence, emotional atmosphere, and the relationship between what is revealed and stories to be told.

I was born in Russia and have lived and worked in Abu Dhabi for more than thirty years. I came to painting in 2020, after a career in banking, and have worked mainly in oil since 2022. My paintings are held in private collections in the United Arab Emirates, Russia and Italy.
