This is a new series, Although if you scroll down through and past my recent oceanic abstract expressionistic paintings, you will see how connected it is to my earlier work. Prompted by the concept of "TRUE NORTH" I wanted to examine my primal connection to life, which is through art. The cave paintings, petroglyphs, and markings of the first cognizant human kind throughout the world are my "True North". The early hybrids of human and animal; think Ancient Egypt, Sumerian, Assyrian, and Babylonian, and later the Kachina, the Aztec art, the gods and goddesses of early cultures that we know, there are so many and it is difficult to do justice to it all, inform my art and sense of "True North". Mythology, and Jungian psychology where we examine inner parts of ourselves separate from what we try to present to the outer world interests me. Emotions, simply being alive, living in this complicated world, are things I can only express through my art, I went back to a figurative form to make it more tangible for the viewer. But, within all of the chaos, I hope to also show light and beauty, and that we are not alone.

www.melorawalters.com short film of me within my art : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsX0qNgT4Ug “When I paint it is not just creating a painting, it is the act of painting. It is transmitting a feeling into a canvas, the act of applying the paint, the movement, almost a ritual”. Walters is an American painter whose work explores the meaning of being alive. She is deeply interested in psychology and human experience, and explores these topics through varied media, including oil on canvas, enamel, analogue photography, sculpture and pencil. Her inspiration comes from philosophers and psychologists such as Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, and Marie Louise von Franz among other intellectuals. Walters addresses emotional themes with pared-down directness and intensity, often portraying ferocious animal archetypes and exploring mythological narratives. Her work been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, and Berlin. “My original love and inspiration is the terrifying risk of being vulnerable. This is what guides me, what holds me, is mythology, Ancient history. Art. Nature, for if it is touched it is no longer wild. Mirrored by the organized chaos of the universe, the abyss, the dark void. Being and Nothingness. My dreams. My love.”
