About The Artwork

Gustav II Adolf, often referred to as Gustavus Adolphus, was a notable Swedish king who left an indelible mark on European history. Born on December 9, 1594, Gustav Adolf ascended to the throne at the young age of 16, following the death of his father, King Charles IX. His reign would come to be defined by his military brilliance, administrative reforms, and significant contributions to the development of modern warfare. Gustav Adolf inherited a Sweden that was emerging from a period of internal strife and external conflicts. Faced with daunting challenges, he embarked on a mission to strengthen his kingdom both militarily and economically. One of his most enduring legacies was his transformation of the Swedish army. He introduced innovative tactics and strategies that emphasized flexibility, mobility, and discipline, revolutionizing the way wars were fought at the time. The king's military successes were most notably displayed during the Thirty Years' War, a complex and protracted conflict that engulfed Europe. Gustav Adolf's intervention in the war had a profound impact, as his Swedish forces scored significant victories against formidable foes. His ability to adapt to changing circumstances on the battlefield and exploit the weaknesses of his adversaries earned him a reputation as one of the greatest military commanders of his era. Gustav Adolf was not solely a warrior king; he was also a visionary ruler who believed in the power of education, culture, and progressive governance. Gustav II Adolf's influence extended beyond his own time, leaving an enduring impact on Swedish history and European military strategy. His forward-thinking approach to warfare, his commitment to education and culture, and his dedication to the welfare of his people make him a figure worth remembering. As a king who combined martial prowess with intellectual curiosity, Gustav Adolf's legacy continues to inspire scholars, historians, and leaders alike.

I am a professional artist represented by three galleries in Sweden and one of the juried watercolor artists representing Nordic Countries at Fabriano In Acquarello, the biggest International Watercolor Exhibition in the world. I regularly exhibit my artwork at solo and group exhibitions. I live on the West coast of Sweden in Gothenburg, the city often called the gateway to Scandinavia. It is often said that a good watercolor requires a marked contrast between light and dark, warm and cold colors, soft and sharp lines, and that's exactly what the cities of the world offer. A tram in the mist of a rainy morning, contrasts of a sunny day, a skyscraper that blocks the view, a river shrouded in mist, long shadows of people at dusk, a line of cars at the red traffic light, calm afternoons in the suburbs - the list of themes seems endless. I use all different kinds of techniques, from pencil and charcoal to acrylic paints and oil although I prefer watercolor because it does not always do what the paintbrush and the painter want, but chooses its own path on the paper and tells the story which no one could have envisaged. My studio is located in the old part of the city of Gothenburg where I work and share the destiny of many artists from all over world: loneliness and insecurity but at the same time happiness and a feeling of deep contentment with the result when I make the final brush stroke and say to myself: "This is it." I will be more than happy to share with you the world seen through my eyes. Best regards Emin Dalibor Eminefendic
