TREMOHARS is born in 1955 into a family of painters, not far away from Pont-Aven where he still lives today, but he grew up in the Paris area. He studied graphic design at the ESAT (higher school of technical arts) in Boulogne-Billancourt, and is then admitted at the Beaux - Arts in Paris. He then worked in the fashion (printed fabrics), in art publishing houses and assisted various sculptors and painters. Around thirty, he started to travel a lot. He lived and worked in Mexico, then in India, for several years. He is influenced by the Cloisonnism of the Pont-Aven School (tinted areas, parting of the shapes using dark circles as in stained glass work) and painters who observed the regional life at their time such as Lemordant, Méheut, De Belay or Lucien Simon. TREMOHARS describes his recent works as those of an "image-making'' painter, technician of the past, of a distanced universe that he recreates with a thorough and falsely naive graphic and the use of pure and generous colors. His gouaches, acrylics and oil paintings recycle and tell us the story of the old Brittany, a Golden Age of fishing and agriculture, enriched by nostalgia but freed from anecdotes. His paintings, full of group-scenes, seem to be the projection of an internal and ideal world looking for contents and possibilities to be expressed through pictorial forms. Bruno TREMOHARS is often invited to show his work around.
