HOMECOMING was intended to mark the beginning of a series of paintings that would be executed in an expressionistic manner, and making obvious and direct reference to the early cubist paintings style of Picasso and Baraque, both paying homage while also emphasizing how limiting and linear our world is when living within boxes and structure and line. I am quite sure that I will continue this series in the not-too-distant future, and see it through to it's logical conclusion. The working title for this painting was KING LEAR AND FAMILY. In November 2019, this work was one of thirty-four artworks featured in the websites show, INSPIRED BY PICASSO, curated by Victoria Kennedy.

ROY OWSLEY BIO Roy Owsley has been an NYC/Catskills-based visual artist for over 40 years, recognized for his “poetic” land and seascape paintings, as well as for his expertise as a biophilic designer of edgy urban (living) landscapes in the Northeast United States. Although he has adopted a New York sensibility, much of Roy’s paintings are informed by his childhood initiation on his family farm in rural Kentucky – There, he learned to respect and appreciate nature in all her majesty and beauty. Owsley received a formal education in the theatre, working professionally as an actor in that medium for over a decade, only later to discover that his true calling was to draw and paint, and that he preferred to use and manipulate that paint to breath life and energy into what he sees and experiences in the natural world. Nature is also communicated by Owsley in a more fantastical manner through what he describes as his series of “Dreamscapes”. Among his dreamscapes is the common theme of cattle grazing under a pink sky, awash with misty moonlight. Roy Owsley’s paintings have been featured in numerous art galleries, public and private collections and venues throughout the USA, UK and Canada, including Saatchi & Saatchi, Macy’s Herald Square, Bank of America Prime Brokerage, Sun Microsystems, and a solo show sponsored by Hugo Boss in their former concept store, located in NYC’s iconic Meatpacking district. Education: BA, Theatre/Communication, WKU, 1980.
