Creating art out of ordinary objects, which through their unique significance and history and my imagination acquire a life of their own, is how I reaffirm that the simplest things in life are those through which we attain the greatest pleasures. The tiny grandma pot, a hot cup of coffee, the chair that offers rest, a bicycle to move at one’s own pace, a piece of luggage, the undisputed trip companion, a sewing machine, among others, are part of our lives and yet we let them become unnoticed… Few things should be disposable. I am in love with the concept of repurposing something old into something new. Even when I don’t know the history of a particular object, I still identify it with my own experiences and assign a unique story to it. My artwork is a mix of those daily objects, so simple and yet so profound, with discarded materials such as magazines, newspapers, pictures, art papers, fabrics and lots of color. My art, like life itself, is a collage of assemblies that tell their own story. I am motivated by the idea that the spectator may identify or create his own story through my creation. At the end of the day, creation of a story or an object is the ultimate expression of liberty, and one that can never be taken away from us.
