Hanim is a simple and elegant hotel in the heart of Chania's Old Town. The facade is really characteristic with its wood "sachnisi", a small protruding area supported by wooden beams, a heritage of the Ottoman architecture. The name "Hanim" means "woman" in Turkish, but it also refers to the old name of the city when it was under the Ottoman Empire. The seven rooms are elegant and simply furnished and take their names from Greek native herbs. The concept of the seven herbs was the roadmap so I painted each herb using watercolour technique on bamboo paper. Anemone, Laurus, Lonicera, Melissa, Matricaria, Salvia, Rosmarinus, measure 6,4cm x 8,9 cm each.

Born and raised in Athens, I started to paint soon after obtaining my diploma in Graphic Arts. I first exhibited in 2010 among established artists, in "35 artists exhibit their works on Global Poverty" at Technopolis in Athens. I moved to Syros island in 2013 where I am now the founder and owner of Plastico café-gallery, an alternative meeting place for artists, musicians, writers and friends. During the pandemic and confinement, what started as an exercise of calmness and self-concentration, was to evolve into personal artistic identity and the creation of a new body of artwork. "Spiros does not follow the traditional style of chiaroscuro - there is none of that in his work yet with a limited and subtle colour palette his work maintains depth. Importantly, when viewing his artworks, one becomes aware of the absence of shadows, purposefully done to create the feeling of timelessness. In the one painting he unexpectedly paints a horse, out of place, out of time, a dry well but somehow the horse was still standing, seemingly in slavery, timeless and still." Sharon Harvey Curator
