My inspiration for this series of doll-paintings was the exhibition "Black Dolls, collection Deborah Neff" at the Museum Maison Rouge in Paris in 2017, where historical black dolls, which were created between 1840 and 1940, were shown. They were often sewn by colored Nannys for the (white) children they took care of. They were all unique. Today, in my pictures, they arouse new associations, on refugees and migration, on issues of equal rights in today's society...Some people also think of voodoo, many of their own childhood. Often also the titles, like "Hansel and Gretel", refer to childhood, because they were taken from fairy tales.
