ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is an interpretation of the prophecy of John of Jerusalem about the culture of money. John of Jerusalem was a Templar who lived in the Middle Ages, between the eleventh and twelfth centuries. He described very clearly the great conflicts of our time: terrorism, the destruction of species, climate change, AIDS, wars in the Middle East, the culture of money and inequalities North South. "When the year thousand begins that follows the year one thousand", so begins each one of his prophecies. The title of this painting are the exact words that Juan de Jerusalen wrote.

I live and work in Toledo. This thousand-year-old city, host of three cultures: the Jewish, Arab and Christian, that have lived together for centuries, inspires me in many aspects of my works, as in the baroque and variegated drawings full of circular geometries or the symmetrical and orientalist images of mandalas , where I try to find harmony in composition and color. My training has to do with painting and also with sociology. This makes the role of women, men, nature and animals in the world present in my work. Thus I have illustrated the prophecies of Juan of Jerusalem, a templar monk of the eleventh century, who had clear and spectacular visions of the world of our century and of centuries to come. This attempt to interpret us about nature, love, loneliness, power and time is a constant in my work, for which I have used a variety of techniques and supports. I am also interested in the search for expressivity and emotion through color and composition. The hard contrast between white and black and colorful expressionism is found in my works. I look for a balance between the violence of color and stroke with rationality and containment. It is the expression of an inner struggle between the unconscious and expressive and the conscious and contained, all from an iconography with oriental and medieval features.
