Head in Blue Painting

I’ve used industrial imagery in my work whenever I could and “Head in Blue” is no exception. The representation of the gear in the lower left of the panel began this painting, even though I’d set out to paint a head. There is a lot of underpainting in this work, which shows through… the left eye, painted over several times and erased even more often, finally emerged as a fragment of a Pennsylvania license plate. Some of the scars you may notice were on the plywood panel before I started the artwork. Note that the dimensions of this painting are approximate. As the wood I find and use is rarely square, framing this work would be a true challenge. I discourage any effort to do so-the painting should stand on its own.
