Deborah Colborn, WittAire Artists I am an artist and retired occupational therapist, living in St. Michaels, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Currently I teach mindfulness meditation to several groups weekly, art to seniors, and promote a community project to bring public art to St. Michaels. My studio, WittAire Artists, is in Wittman, 8 minutes from my home; it is truly my "happy place". The inspiration for my work comes mainly from the natural world or as abstracted concepts from what concerns me. I feel my work is a dance between the canvas and what I feel or experience at the time; the brush and the palate facilitate the process. I primarily paint with acrylics and oils and occasionally mixed media with spray paint, collage papers, wood and copper. My passion continues to be the sensation and flexibility of the brush in my hand, as large as the area on the canvas allows. While I took my first painting class at the Cleveland Institute of Art with Peter Paul Dubaniewicz during a summer in college, I really did not get serious until I settled in St. Michaels many years later. I have studied with a number of artists in the area, particularly David Grafton, Joe Mayer, Sung Hong and at Yellow Barn Studio, Glen Echo, Md, and the Art Academy in Easton and other out of town venues. I have traveled extensively around the world, particularly loving the elephants in southern Africa. I am a member of the St. Michaels Art League and one of the founding members of the coop Main Street Gallery, Cambridge, MD. I have been fortunate to win a few prices at local shows.
