About The Artwork

This painting is currently NFS because it is committed to an exhibit in Portland, Oregon. It will be available for purchase July 2017. My great grandparents were Greek and my first visit to Greece a few months ago had a deep impact on me. Viewing the ancient art and experiencing the culture helped me understand myself in many new ways. This painting Heracles is inspired by that trip and is the first in a new body of work that examines ancient greek art from a contemporary and personal place. I love everything about this painting. From the dynamic S curve of the demigod's body, a balance of strength and fluidity, to the cracked surfaces of the polished marble, beautiful in its disfigurement. Oil paint is the perfect medium to capture the shimmer of marble as well as the rough surfaces that look chipped away by the violence of time. This piece is painted on a birch wood panel and cradled 2" deep with solid pine. I love painting on wood because it is the most archival and it preserves brushwork on the surface.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

The first time I painted with oils I knew this is what I was meant to do the rest of my life. Everything about oil paint resonates with me. As a person who relishes corporeal experiences, the olfactory delight of linseed oil and the visual richness of glistening pigments intoxicates me. As an artist who approaches the easel with only a silhouette of an idea, the range of oil paint-- from translucent glazes to opaque, juicy passages--inspires the spontaneity and experimentation that is so essential to my creative process. When paint stays wet for several days, anything becomes possible. Brushstrokes can be manipulated, scraped off, or remixed into new colors. In this flexible state, art becomes more present, more capable of capturing the subtle changes of mood and emotion. Oil painting makes me fearless in this knowing. Oil painting brings me closer to myself.
