About The Artwork

This piece was derived from a photo I took at a higher elevation of the hills and the ocean beyond. My eyes moved continually from one end of the vista to the next, up and down, closer and farther away. Intrigued by this rhythmic flow of the landscape, I chose not to include the ocean, sky or foreground in the photo, as I examined various compositions with my camera. Back home in the studio, I was inspired to further explore this harmonious combination of shapes. The composition was simplified. The delineation of the hills became studies in the movement of lines. I then found myself abandoning a realistic palette all together and exploring vibrant color combinations I had not yet used. Various textures were added and their placement carefully selected. The result is a painting of pure emotion.

Margaret Biggs is a painter whose use of line, color and form communicates the healing and strength she finds in nature. Born in the Gulf South, her art is influenced by natural beauty. An early career allowed her to live in Europe and New York, where she became familiar with the Western artistic canon. Margaret later studied under renowned artist Kerry James Marshall. She is influenced by mid-20th-century Realism and Expressionism. Margaret found solace in nature to deal with life’s travails. She artistically converts her experiences to inspire others in their search for inner peace. Her imagery has been popular in the evidence-based Healing Arts Movement and can be found in medical facilities, hotels and businesses nationwide. Her work was a part of the Arts in Embassies program and has been featured in solo and group shows.
