This work is painting on found timber from old homes around me. I creat abstract paintings and smash and cut with builders tools to pull the painting apart and re-assemble. Im a painter looking for space in the painting, looking for space within the world. To me space in our thinking offers opportunity for great change, to evolve. The space is manifested here as physical space within the painting. I cut and smash my paintings up and assembling organic grids from the pieces. I work at the edge of painting, disregarding the rules looking for another way through. Creating image from object process, using found timber discarded from building sites as canvas. I cover, apply colour, burn, use builders tools and my invented way of using them to make things that are paintings. The works are named toward the human experience of pleasure, pain, acts of courage or natural phenomena both great and disastrous that can open us up to our essential selves. An opportunity to be without ego, even if just for a moment.
