About The Artwork

This painting belongs to a series of paintings called "Exposed, or to be revealed". In the image, an unidentifiable figure sits holding a hula-hoop. The style of her garments reminds the 1920s. The women presented by Alfons Mucha, Otto Eckmann, Gustav Klimt or Hans Christiansen, artists of this time, are seen from low angle and represented as powerful and godlike apparitions of beauty. But the models used by the artists were often prostitutes and women of few means. They seem to be revealing themselves, but they're more likely being exhibited.
