I have been strongly influenced by my dreams ever since I was a child. No two dreams are the same. Some are recurrent, some are ambiguous or blurry and others are so sketchy that we cannot even remember them. Nonetheless, dreams have always been very important to me. I love traveling, learning, and exploring new things. I was not able to travel much as a child, therefore my dreams became a medium through which my mind could make an imaginary journey. My dreams could take me anywhere and I could experience things just like in the reality. Sometimes the dreams were so real that I still remember some of them years later. I believe that dreaming is an unconscious process in which the brain unloads accumulated information and tries to digest it. Not only does the brain recycle information while we are dreaming, but it also serves a window to access more information about ourselves and the world When I fall asleep, it almost feels as if there is very subtle breeze at the top of my head; it gives me a soothing sensation. My thoughts are drawn through an imaginative state as they drift into a dream-like state of mind. As much as tree roots grow toward the water to feed the tree, my thoughts tap into dreams and my subconscious for inspiration. I sketch some images that I see in my dreams. I don’t wait until morning. I usually wake up in the middle of the night to sketchwhile the memory is still fresh. It is important to me to preserve the original image from my dreams, instead of clouding it with my own interpretation into the sketch. Most of the artwork I paint is what I see in my dreams. The images that I see become the base for future paintings. I create the paintings without changing the original essence of the image. It is much later after the painting is completed that I uncover the meaning of the painting. It feels as if I found a long awaited buried treasure.
