Hunter Zen Painting

A painter and art material enthusiast, Karyn has been painting and working in the fine arts industry for over fifteen years. After completing her MFA in scenic art, and working nationally on the regional theatre circuit, she taught design and drawing, keeping a hand in the decorative arts and her own drawings. Her work at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., in the conservation department with the Mellon Art Materials Collection gave her an unequalled exposure to one of the largest art material collections in existence. Karyn has worked in online publishing and video production for both American Artist and The Artist Magazine before becoming a social media developer and blogger for some of the top art material manufacturers in the world, all while continuing her own abstract work with acrylic. “A blank canvas means working from a place of color, texture and feel for me rather than image. I work abstractly because I view it as both complex and simple. With a background in realism, I love for the opposite end of the spectrum, to know the experience of painting more from emotion, soul, experience and what the materials say rather than the imagery of day to day life.”
