About The Artwork
The NY Public Library has 2 famous lions: Patience (south side) and Fortitude (north side). Mayor Fiorello La Guardia named them Patience and Fortitude so that people of NY during the Depression days would have these attributes to get through it. These 2 famous lions stand guard in front of the Beaux art library built in 1911 and face 42nd Street & 5th Avenue. Every Christmas, the lions wear wreaths around their necks to celebrate the holiday. Tourists love taking pictures of the lions as treasured keepsake souvenirs. I love Patience and Fortitude.
