Take a step back in time to the enchanting era of 19th-century book illustrations, known as the Golden Age of Illustration, with "I Robbed The Woods." This watercolor painting pays homage to the era when artistry and imagination transformed literature into living, breathing works of art. Within this captivating piece, a world unfolds amidst towering birch trunks. Vigorous black ink lines lend depth and perspective to the scene, drawing you into the heart of the woodland. The sharp outlining and bold, flat tints of black create a vibrant contrast, infusing life into the grayscale landscape. Yet, the true protagonist of this narrative is an enigmatic red fox, its fur a fiery beacon in a world of monochromatic beauty. The vivid use of red not only captivates the eye but also weaves a compelling story, establishing the fox as the undisputed star of this piece. The title, "I Robbed The Woods," borrowed from a poem by Emily Dickinson, adds a layer of poetic depth to this artwork. It beckons you to explore the realms of art, literature, and imagination. As an artist, I find my creative expression balanced between the fluidity of watercolor and the boldness of acrylic. My watercolor pieces embody a delicate blend of realism and abstraction. Through intricate depictions, like serene birch forests juxtaposed with vibrant foliage, I capture the texture and tranquility of nature. The use of fine lines and washes of color evokes a sense of calmness and quiet beauty, inviting viewers into a dreamlike world. In my abstract acrylic works, I craft each piece in an organic, spontaneous manner. Much like Rothko, I like to use horizontal color fields on portrait-oriented canvases to create visually striking and unexpected effects. By placing these expansive bands of color within vertical confines, I challenge traditional landscape perceptions, transforming the interaction with color into a profound emotional journey. My process evolves with each stage, building upon the last and allowing for unexpected discoveries and adjustments. This journey continues until the final piece emerges, shaped by layers of color, form, texture, and surface. In my acrylics I often use unconventional objects and tools to create unique marks, capturing the essence and beauty of naturally weathered elements. Every artwork is a singular expression, truly one-of-a-kind, reflecting a harmonious blend of technique, intuition, and a deep connection with the natural world.
