ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Last summer in Corfu, while visiting the history museum, I came across this fragment of a surviving Greek sculpture. Gazing at the generalized features of this man who lived more than 2,000 years ago, I thought about the relationship between the sculptor and his model, about the evanescence of the moment and eternity. A year later, I decided to paint a composition where I added a bouquet or rather a fragment of lavender and wild roses blooming in my garden to the beautiful face of the ancient sculpture. In the mask I inserted alive eyes the color of the sky, and to the lips touched a small blue butterfly - a symbol of the elusiveness of time. And I called it "I'll weave you a wreath of wild roses”.

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999. Bachelor's degree in Costume Design; 1990-1995 studies at the Abramtsevo College of Applied Arts and in 1995 obtained a bachelor's degree in stone, bone and wood processing from an artist-master.
