I only breathe my own air Painting

The painting “I Only Breathe My Own Air” is part of the exhibition titled “I Am No Longer Here and Will Not Be” – the diploma exhibition of Roksana Chudon, who graduated in June this year with a degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Faculty of Painting, thus earning her Master's degree. The artist is able to convey the beauty of the city in an unconventional and modern way, leaving hidden, post-apocalyptic meanings within the paintings. The painting, like the rest in this series, depicts a beautiful urban landscape, in this case, the artist’s hometown – Żyrardów, but it is somewhat of a pretext to say something about herself. Or perhaps about us? Because the streets in these paintings are empty, devoid of people, one can feel the emptiness, loneliness, and nothingness. The reason is intriguing – it’s our choice; we prefer to stay at home, to retreat into our favorite, neon screens and remain there. We choose to be online and maintain our relationships that way. Where will this lead us?
