About The Artwork

This piece is born from a design for a mural in Uptown New York that ended up going in a different artistic direction. I was so excited about that original design I decided to paint it regardless but on canvas instead of on a building. After a year and some change, I completed it as my most intricate and accomplished piece to date. It joins the ranks of my painting series "Urban Jungle". The series started in 2017 in NY and is ongoing. It opens a dialogue between urban issues and nature. Through it, I raise questions about the relationship between our kind and our surroundings, the imposed force or the complicity we have with nature in its general form, and the overall struggles of our human nature. In this one, two kids embrace what childhood gives us in abundance: fierceness and a sense of invincibility in recklessness. They follow each other with some complicity to jump in a dark water with gold reflections and a flamingo flies away as they approach. They jump from a messy jungle into a less cluttered horizon under an abstract Moon and a flock of cranes painted in a Japanese fashion. I want this piece as an ode to our blissful ignorance when we are kids, the risks we take without caring and the boldness we have venturing into the world of adults we fantasise about. ~ TECHNICAL DETAILS The artwork is sold stretched on wooden stretcher bars, varnished with satin invisible UV protection and ready to hang.

Best known for his cross-cultural approach, Oscar Lett stands out by his bold looking paintings prominently using black and contrasting metallic colours. Based in NYC, the Parisian artist loves to embrace the influences of the countries he lived in. After moving to London to study at Central Saint Martins, Oscar then moved to Kyoto as he sought teaching from the masters of Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting). Appropriating each culture and their aesthetics, O.L. developed a unique style depicting a world where opposites can coexist and where people overcome their struggles in impossible urban jungles. Working in large-scale and always craving bigger, Oscar naturally moved to New York in 2016 and made the street his new playground. Since then Lett has been developing a wide portfolio of murals in Europe and the U.S., allowing his fine art and street art practices to inspire one another.
