"In God We Trust" is a powerfully evocative abstract painting, featuring the iconic imagery of the American flag. Across its textured surface, the poignant question "When did we become a nation of fucking cowards?", is emblazoned across the front, prompting reflection and introspection. A sheer piec...

Artist Statement From the moment I viewed Pierre Bonnard’s, “Nude in Bathtub” at the Pompidou Museum in Paris I knew I wanted to create art with brilliant colors, shapes and texture that would convey my deepest emotions. I grew up in Miami surrounded by artists, writers, musicians in a lively and volatile household filled with chaos and activities circulating around dance and art. This framework I bring to my art everyday; painting in a kinetic, energetic, reactionary way. Dancing, scraping, manipulating fabrics, cutting, melting wax and painting intuitively. Much of my work is in the moment, many themed around our countries political environment, most based on my personal journey. I have no agenda many times allowing the materials to dictate what they want to convey. I am constantly experimenting and making up my own techniques and methods with found objects or whatever feels right at that moment. Many times going back to a painting and hosing it down or scraping it down to its essence only to begin again. Deborah Rutter, (former president of the Kennedy Center) said, “It is important to understand that artists are really the mirror to who we are as a society. The artists are truly the ones telling our stories. If we really believe in the American value of freedom and expression, artists will stand up and tell those stories”. I hope my art conveys the emotions that I lay bare on the canvas and welcome all interpretations from the viewer. There is a time transcending joy in this process; one of which I want to be seen as the voice I wish to be heard.
